Know Your Number is a free, static, educational tool. This page explains what data is (and isn't) collected when you use it.

The calculator itself

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your slider inputs and results are computed on your device. If you use the "copy link" or "share" feature, your chosen values are encoded directly into the URL itself (visible in your address bar) so the link can recreate your scenario for whoever opens it.

First-party analytics (only if you agree)

The first time you visit, we ask whether you're OK with privacy-friendly analytics. If you choose "No thanks," nothing is sent and no analytics are collected. If you agree, we collect a small amount of usage data on our own servers to understand how the tool is used and improve it:

Which pages and features you use (page views, calculations run, presets, view toggles, downloads, shares, and clicks on outbound links).
The values you set in the calculator (for example product type and slider positions), so we can see which scenarios people explore. These are not linked to your identity.
Coarse location (country, region, and city), derived from your network connection. We do not store your full IP address.
Device and browser basics: device type (mobile, tablet, desktop), browser, operating system, screen size, language, and time zone.
Where you arrived from (referring site and any campaign tags in the link).

To do this we store a random identifier in your browser so repeat visits from the same browser can be grouped together. This identifier is random. It is not your name, email, or account, and we do not try to work out who you are. We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact details anywhere on this site.

We do not sell this data, and we do not share it with data brokers. It is used by us to run and improve this tool, and it may inform aggregate, anonymized reporting (for example "most visitors came from mobile").

Your choice, and how to change it: analytics only run after you select "OK." To withdraw consent later, clear this site's data in your browser settings, or clear your browser's storage for this site, and you will be asked again. If you have "Do Not Track" or similar controls, you can also simply choose "No thanks."

Cookies & third-party advertising

This site may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and manage your ad personalization settings at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of many third-party advertising cookies industry-wide at optout.aboutads.info. This advertising is separate from the first-party analytics described above.

Age & targeted advertising

This site is intended for a general audience including people under 18. Ads shown here are configured to exclude alcohol, tobacco, and other age-restricted product categories at the ad-network level.
